Should You Remove Wallpaper or Just Paint Over It?
When you want to give a room a makeover, changing up the walls is an obvious option. You may want to paint the walls a new color, but having wallpaper already in place might make you hesitate. Removing wallpaper can take time, so should you just paint over the paper instead?
While it may save time, painting over wallpaper can cause a host of problems down the line. Paper may peel, taking your paint with it, or textures and designs can show through your painted-over walls. Removing the paper first will create better results and fewer problems in the long run.
But, sometimes stripping the paper can lead to problems with the wall itself. Drywall and plaster are especially susceptible to these issues, so painting over wallpaper may be in your best interest. For a successful paint job, be sure to take the appropriate precautions first.
